Activities

The income generating activities fall in line with the community initiatives; vulnerable group and city participative management support programme (ICOGESPUR Programme). This programme is not only aimed at sustainably improving the activities and living conditions of city dwellers through the realization of appropriate micro projects but also provides support for the income generating  activities of the poor through micro credits.

Results

- 12 radio broadcasts and articles published in the ASSEJA bulletin and in other Medias;

- More than 1500 copies of the brochures produced and distributed;

- More than 469 groups of IGAs promoters;

- 154 participative diagnostics carried out ;

- 89 training sessions (workshops, seminars, and working sessions) organized in favour of the groups;

-160 groups received support for the legalization of their groups;

-143 groups received support for the structuring of their groups;

- More than 600 visits received from group officials;

-08 CIG unions have been constituted and 38 members of the said groups were trained;

-112 practical sessions on agro pastoral activities organized in favour of the groups;

-650 consultations initiated in favour of isolated groups and promoters at the office and on the field;

-305 field visits for the technical monitoring of the agro pastoral activities with the groups;

-06 information and exhibition days (trade fair or exhibition) was the occasion for the CIGs to present their activities to the public and other partners for possible funding;

-08 mills have been offered to 08 to 08 women groups;

-02 lists of organizations offering micro credits to groups and IGAs promoters produced in 100 copies and handed to groups to inform them on the financing procedures of their activities.

a.      Local development and decentralization

Activities

  • The structuring of communities: It consists in organizing the communities and involving them in development actions through the implementation of micro projects, technical, organizational and managerial capacity building.
  • Distribution/circulation of documents/by-laws: It enables the communities to be aware of the existing laws and prevents them from operating illegally.
  • The drafting of development plans: through this document, development actors are conversant with the populations’ needs and local development initiatives.
  • Project design support: It enables development actors to improve on their development initiatives thanks to the projects developed based on the populations’ needs.
  • Networking: It enables the actors to work together for the promotion of their rights and the development of one or more development aspects.
  • Development of discussion platforms: This has to do with the creation of a discussion medium for the various development actors.
  • Development of neighbourhood development plans,
  • Promotion and support to neighbourhood development committees.

Results

• Since 2005, ASSEJA has organized and contributed to the drafting of development plans for the Yaounde neighbourhoods.

• Contribution in the development of the Yaounde II neighbourhoods’ development plans.

• Development of the Oyom-Abang neighbourhood development plan.

• The creation and installation of 3 groupings of community organizations at Oyom-Abang, Mfandena, Etoudi and 9 groupings in Bertoua.

•  The creation of 8 CIGs unions of traders, dress-makers, beekeepers , stock breeders, farmers hairdressers and masseurs, basket makers, restaurant owners of the Centre Region.

• Creation of the network of crafstmen, micro entrepreneurs and promoters of income generating activities sponsored by ASSEJA (RAMEPA).

• Initiator of the network of Urban Development Organizations (RODEUR) in 2004, and coordination of the network.

• Organization of an experience sharing trip to Mali in the Bamako municipalities with RODEUR members in 2005.

• Participation in the Multi-actors Concerted Programme meetings (PCPA).

• Participation in the HIPC process.

• ASSEJA is member of the Cameroon Education for All Network (CEFAN) which promotes the concept of education for all.

• The NGO is member of the national coalition of NGOs of the World foundation Women (CONACOF) which fights against child abuse.

• ASSEJA is member of the national Consultative Committee for the implementation of IPEC program for the fight against child trafficking and maltreatment.

• ASSEJA is part of the network for the fight against the domestic exploitation of children in Cameroon (CD Watch)

• ASSEJA promotes the fight against the sexual exploitation of children and human trafficking in a network of international, official and non governmental actors.

• The NGO participated in the elaboration of the strategic plan for the fight against drugs.

• ASSEJA is member of the PRSP and Youth Development for Peace network.

• ASSEJA is a member of CAPANET created in 2004

• ASSEJA is a member of the DIMITRA Network since 2008

• ASSEJA is a member of the GWA (Gender Water Alliance).
